A feature of the Block editor is Reusable Blocks. These can be individual Blocks or a Block Group.
They have two main uses:
- to provide items which can be used across a site, such as contact details – this can save time, ensure consistent design and allow for site-wide updating by editing the reusable block anywhere it is being used;
- as a template block to provide a starting point for adding page content, saving time and ensuring consistency of design.
The LGD Callanish Theme does not come with any premade Reusable Blocks, but these may be added as part of the customisation process.
Creating a Reusable Block
Any Block or Block Group in the page editor can be used to create a Reusable Block.
Selecting a Reusable Block
Reusable Blocks are available in the Block selector, just like ordinary Blocks.
For a repeated Block, once you’ve added the Block, that’s it.
If you select Edit, and make any changes, these will update the Block wherever it is being used.
To amend the Block just for the current use, you need to select Convert to Regular Block (not Remove from reusable blocks which would remove the Block from the Reusable Blocks library and permanently remove the block from all posts and pages that use it).
